The JSCA International Stadium in Ranchi is all set to host the opening match of the three-match ODI series between India and South Africa on Sunday (November 30). The visiting team is high on confidence after whitewashing the hosts 2-0 in the Test series earlier this week. However, the ODIs will pose a different challenge for them as the Indian side will be reinforced with the return of stalwarts Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.Team India last played an ODI in Ranchi on October 9, 2022. It was also against South Africa, with Shikhar Dhawan leading the team. The Proteas batted first in the contest after winning the toss and scored a respectable total of 278/7 in 50 overs on the back of half-centuries from Aiden Markram (79) and Reeza Hendricks (74).A couple of other batters also got starts, but none could convert them, which hurt South Africa's chances of scoring above 300. Mohammed Siraj starred for India in the bowling department, ending with impressive figures of 10-1-38-3.The hosts then got off to a poor start, losing both the openers, Shikhar Dhawan (13) and Shubman Gill (28), inside the powerplay with only 48 runs on the scoreboard. Shreyas Iyer (113) and Ishan Kishan (93) then put on a 161-run partnership for the third wicket to help their team get back on track and coast towards the target.Kishan, unfortunately, perished seven runs short of a century, while Iyer completed the milestone and took India home in the chase by remaining unbeaten at the end. Sanju Samson supported him after Kishan's departure, with a handy knock of 30* (36) as India won the match comfortably by seven wickets. Shreyas Iyer received the Player of the Match award for his magnificent century in the chase.India's overall ODI record in RanchiThe Men in Blue have a mixed record while playing the fifty-over games at the JSCA International Stadium in Ranchi. Across six ODIs, the hosts managed to win three games against England, Sri Lanka, and South Africa in 2013, 2014, and 2022.They suffered losses in two games against New Zealand and Australia in 2016 and 2019, while one contest in 2013 ended without a result. After losing the Test series in a one-sided manner, India will be hoping for a comeback by clinching the ODI series trophy. They will be without their regular captain, Shubman Gill, as he has been ruled out due to fitness issues. KL Rahul will stand in as captain in his absence. You can get live updates of the first match here.
