Former India captain Rohit Sharma is coming on the back of a red-hot form with the bat ahead of the three-match ODI series against South Africa, which begins in Ranchi on Sunday, November 30. The 30-year-old recently slammed an unbeaten 121 in Australia during the third ODI to help the Men in Blue finish the series on a high. India won the match by nine wickets. The 38-year-old had also scored 73 in the second match.
Rohit's exploits with the bat helped him win the Player of the Series award and jump to the World No.1 spot in the latest ICC batting rankings. The senior batter will now look to continue his exploits with the bat in the 50-over series against the Proteas.
Like Rohit Sharma, South Africa opener Aiden Markram is also coming off a promising ODI form, scoring 86 and 49 during a three-match series in England to help his side win 2-1.
In this article, we will compare Rohit Sharma and Aiden Markram’s records after 83 ODIs

Aiden Markram made his ODI debut against Bangladesh in 2017, scoring 66 off 60 balls. Since then, the right-handed batter has amassed 2,590 runs in 83 matches (79 innings).
On the contrary, Rohit Sharma didn’t get to bat on his debut against Ireland in 2007. In his first 83 ODIs, he amassed 1,966 runs in 78 innings.

Aiden Markram has grown from strength to strength in terms of average in his ODI career. After averaging in his 20s in his first 48 games, he has increased his average to 37. His strike rate was 97.73.

Overall, Rohit is among only a few batters to complete 10,000 runs in international cricket. The Mumbai batter has scored 11,370 runs in 276 ODIs (268 innings) at an average of 49.22, including 33 tons and 59 half-centuries. With Markram being 31, there is less chance that the Proteas opener might reach closer to that of Rohit’s tally.
