Former India all-rounder Ravi Shastri narrated a hilarious incident at the Australian airport amid the ongoing white-ball series between the two teams Down Under. The Men in Blue are currently playing a five-match T20I series.
Ravi Shastri hilariously thanked Australia for being kind to him. He stated that his passport was always stamped quickly at the airport, the reason being that he was the late Shane Warne's first Test wicket. The staff would funnily thank him for having given Warne the confidence.
"I just want to tell Australia, they have been very kind to me. Every time I come through the airport, they just stamp my passport in a hurry. I say why do you do that? They say you were Shane Warne's first Test wicket. You gave him so much confidence that after that, he went on to take 707, he came James Bond, so we thank you very much," he said. Warne made his Test debut against India at Sydney in 1992. He dismissed Ravi Shastri for 206 to claim his maiden wicket in the format. Warne went on to become one of the greatest bowlers to have played Test cricket. He ended with 708 scalps from 145 games at an average of 25.41 with 37 five-wicket hauls.
Ravi Shastri reveals strong advice to counter sledging during his tenure as India Head coach
Ravi Shastri served as the Head Coach of the Indian team from 2017 to 2021. During his tenure, they won two back-to-back Test series against Australia in Australia.
Shastri revealed his advice to the players to counter sledging while playing against Australia. The two teams share a fierce rivalry with a history of sledging as well.
"As a coach, I said my guys that if a word is said to you, you give in one sledge in your language, one in Hindi, one in your mother tongue, and then I'll give you ten more in English which you can byheart one everyday. But I want everyone to have a crack. That's how you play against Australia," he said.
The Men in Blue are currently in Australia for a white-ball series. They lost the ODI series 1-2 while the T20I series is going on.
