"Will be a four-over bowler" - Subramaniam Badrinath urges CSK to target former No. 1-ranked T20I star in IPL 2026 auction

Former Indian batter Subramaniam Badrinath urged the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to target leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi at the upcoming IPL 2026 auction. The 25-year-old endured a poor IPL 2025 season with the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), resulting in the franchise releasing him.

However, Bishnoi has excelled in past IPLs and for Team India in T20Is, including being ranked No.1 in the ICC T20I bowler rankings in 2023. Meanwhile, CSK have a barren spin-bowling cupboard with the retirement of Ravichandran Ashwin and the trade of Ravindra Jadeja in the off-season.

Talking about why CSK should target Bishnoi as one of their first picks in the auction, Badrinath said on his YouTube channel:

"He'll be a great option, one CSK will definitely target. They are without two specialist spinners, Jadeja and Ashwin. So they definitely need a spinner, and Ravi Bishnoi will be a four-over bowler. And wrist spinners have been successful in the Chepauk stadium. Noor Ahmad and Ravi Bishnoi will form a super combination. He'll probably go for a high price, but CSK will benefit if they buy him."

The former CSK batter also advised the franchise to focus on death bowling and potentially acquire one of Anrich Nortje, Gerald Coetzee, or Matheesha Pathirana.

"CSK definitely needs a death bowler. Anrich Nortje is a tearaway fast bowler who can bowl with the new ball and in the end overs. Gerald Coetzee will be a good option, having also played for the Joburg Super Kings before. CSK also bid for him strongly in the last auction. Buying Matheesha Pathirana back for a lower price won't be a bad option. But a death bowler is a must for CSK, for which they can go for one of these three options," added Badrinath.

Pathirana was with CSK from the 2022 IPL season until the most recent edition this year. However, his poor 2025 campaign resulted in the franchise releasing him ahead of the auction.

"David Miller will certainly fit well with CSK" - Subramaniam Badrinath

Subramaniam Badrinath believes South African batter David Miller could be an excellent addition to the CSK roster in the IPL 2026 auction. The 36-year-old struggled in his lone season with LSG this year, after three impressive years with the Gujarat Titans (GT).

However, Badrinath pointed to aging superstars coming good with CSK in the past as a reason for the franchise to invest in Miller.

"David Miller is an intimidating end-overs player and a left-hander. He has been playing well against spin also recently. Yes, he is seemingly nearing the end of his career. But such players have done very well with CSK. Take Shane Watson, Robin Uthappa, or Ajinkya Rahane. So David Miller will certainly fit well with CSK," said Badrinath (via the aforementioned source).

The IPL 2026 auction will be a day-long event held in Abu Dhabi on December 16.
