Team India and South Africa will lock horns in the third ODI today (December 6) at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam. It is a series decider as the two teams won a match each before this contest. The home team began the three-match ODI series with a 17-run victory in Ranchi, while the visitors levelled things with a four-wicket win in Raipur.
The action now moves to the port city of Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh for the series finale. The ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in the city last hosted an ODI match on March 19, 2023, between India and Australia. It was a one-sided affair as the home team's batting unit failed miserably against the Australian pace attack.
The visiting captain, Steve Smith, won the toss and opted to field first in the contest. Left-arm pacer Mitchell Starc dismissed Shubman Gill on the third ball of the very first over for a two-ball duck to set the tone for his side. He then went on to wreak havoc on the opposition batting line-up, ending up with a five-wicket haul. As a result, Men in Blue skittled out for 117 in just 26 overs. India enjoys a decent record in ODIs played in Visakhapatnam. The hosts managed to win seven games while losing on two occasions across 10 contests. One match ended without a result.
It has also been a happy hunting ground for Virat Kohli, who scored 587 runs in seven games at an average of 97.83, including three centuries and two half-centuries.
After losing the Test series, India will be eager to beat South Africa in the ODI series and clinch the trophy by winning the decider on Saturday.
