The Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in Raipur will host the second ODI between India and South Africa on Wednesday (December 3). The hosts currently lead the three-match series by 1-0 after winning the opening ODI in Ranchi on Sunday. Virat Kohli starred for India with a Player of the Match performance, 135 (120).
Team India last played an ODI in Raipur on January 21, 2023, against New Zealand. It is the only 50-over match played at the venue so far. After being asked to bat first, the Kiwis' batting unit surrendered meekly without much fight and got all out for 108 in 34.3 overs. Veteran pacer Mohammed Shami stole the show with a brilliant spell of 6-1-18-3. Hardik Pandya and Washington Sundar picked up two wickets apiece to support him with the ball.
Rohit Sharma (51) and Shubman Gill (40*) then put on a 72-run opening partnership to steer their side towards the paltry target, avoiding any hiccups. After the departures of Sharma and Virat Kohli (9), Gill finished the formalities in the 21st over, taking India home in the company of Ishan Kishan (8). Mohammed Shami received the Player of the Match award for his brilliant spell in the first innings.
"When will you be playing him?" - Aakash Chopra on Indian management ignoring Rishabh Pant ahead of 2nd ODI vs South Africa in Raipur

Former cricketer Aakash Chopra recently criticized Team India management for not giving Rishabh Pant a chance in the middle-order in Shreyas Iyer's absence. Speaking on the matter in his YouTube video, he said:
"They are not in favour of playing Rishabh Pant either. When will you be playing him? This was the opportunity to slot him in the middle order. They played someone at number four who hasn’t done so before, so was number five. I still don’t understand this team’s batting order. It’s a different type of disorder."
On Ruturaj Gaikwad getting a chance at the number four position ahead of Pant, Chopra added:
"Ruturaj Gaikwad was given an opportunity at number four. He doesn’t play at number four. Dewald Brevis took an outstanding catch but all I was thinking at the moment that Gaikwad should be getting more opportunities. He deserves an opportunity in all three games and even if he performs poorly, don’t discard him. Gaikwad doesn’t deserved to be judged in these three performances because he is an opener."
