India bowled first and bundled South Africa out for 270. On the fifth ball of the 26th over by Keshav Maharaj, Rohit miscued a slogsweep. It was a tossed up delivery, and he completely mistimed the shot, only to find a top-edge.

The ball went up in the air as Matthew Breetzke ran in from deep mid-wicket to take a wonderful catch to end Rohit Sharma's innings. He swung his bat in anger and was clearly disappointed with himself. It was a much-needed breakthrough for South Africa as Rohit was well set. He had to walk back for a brilliant 75 off 73 balls with seven boundaries and three maximums.

Opening the batting, Rohit set the tone with an exceptional partnership with Yashasvi Jaiswal at the top. The duo added 155 runs. It was also India's second-highest opening partnership against South Africa in ODIs.

In the first game, Rohit had scored a quickfire fifty, making 57 runs off 51 balls with five boundaries and three sixes at a strike-rate of 111.76. He failed to get a big score in the second match and was dismissed for 14 runs off eight balls with three boundaries at a strike-rate of 175.

However, he bounced back with another impressive fifty here in the final game of the series. Rohit Sharma ended with 146 runs from three matches at an average of 48.66 at a strike-rate of 110.60.

With this knock, he also joined an elite club of Indian batters. Rohit became only the fourth Indian batter to cross 20000 international runs. He now has 20048 runs from 505 matches across formats. Rohit is only behind Rahul Dravid (24064), Virat Kohli (27930), and Sachin Tendulkar (34357) on the list.
