South Africa captain Temba Bavuma fell prey to Washington Sundar's leg slip ploy on Day 4 of the second Test against India at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati on Tuesday, November 25. The right-handed batter could only score three runs off 11 deliveries in the second innings as the Men in Blue mounted a fightback. Bavuma came into bat after Ravindra Jadeja castled Aiden Markram with a peach of a delivery midway through the session. The middle-order batter was arguably on the edge in the early stages of the innings, forcing Tristan Stubbs for a couple of quick singles, almost resulting in a run-out casualty. Encouraged by the turn and bounce that the spinners were generating, India were aggressive against the Proteas batters who were holding onto their wicket. With multiple close-in fielders for the new batter, Bavuma, the hosts were on the hunt for their third breakthrough of the session after dealing with the openers. In the 32nd over, Washington Sundar generated a golden chance as Bavuma tried to fend off an incoming delivery after some sharp turn. The ball flew towards the short leg after an inside edge, after deflection off the pads. Sai Sudharsan was able to get a hand to it, the ball spilled out, and Nitish Kumar Reddy at leg slip could not pounce in time as well. The very next delivery, Bavuma tried to nudge another incoming delivery that turned square. However, he ended up playing it all wrong on the front foot, and well away from his body, as the ball bounced and turned well outside the leg stump. The ball glanced the glove and landed straight to leg slip to seal the wicket, Sundar's first of the series.
