Virat Kohli took an easy catch as India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja dismissed South Africa captain Temba Bavuma against the run of play in the third and final ODI in Vizag on Saturday, December 6. Bavuma got well-set at the crease but failed to consolidate, departing for 48 runs off 67 balls. With the scalp, Jadeja broke the 113-run partnership for the second wicket.

The dismissal came in the 21st over of the Proteas’ innings. Birthday boy Jadeja bowled a slower one, floated wide on length, and Bavuma took a small strike across and reached out to the ball with his upper body to slash it away. The right-hander failed to keep the ball down, only managing an outside edge that went straight to Kohli at point. The former skipper brought out a swagger look after the catch, holding the ball for a while, and Jadeja looked pumped up with the scalp.

Surprisingly, it was Ravindra Jadeja’s first wicket of the three-match series. The 37-year-old will look to produce a much better display with the ball. Notably, Axar Patel was picked ahead of Jadeja in the previous ODI series in Australia.

Quinton de Kock and Temba Bavuma steady South Africa after losing Ryan Rickelton early in the ODI series decider; Virat Kohli on verge of hat-trick of centuries

A clinical batting display from Quinton de Kock and Temba Bavuma placed South Africa in a better situation after Arshdeep Singh dismissed Ryan Rickelton for a duck in the first over.

At the time of writing, the tourists were 132/2 after 23.2 overs, with de Kock (77 off 64) and Matthew Breetzke (4 off 5) at the crease.

Team India won the series opener by 17 runs in Ranchi, thanks to a century from Virat Kohli (135 off 120 balls). The Proteas then bounced back by chasing 359 against India in the second ODI in Raipur. They won the match by four wickets to level the series 1-1. Aiden Markram smashed 110 off 98 balls. Notably, Ruturaj Gaikwad's (105) and Virat Kohli’s (102) centuries went in vain.

As skipper, KL Rahul will look to win his second consecutive ODI series against the Proteas after a 2-1 win in South Africa in 2023. Meanwhile, the visitors are aiming for their first series win on Indian soil after their 2015/16 tour.
