DDCA confirmed that Kohli and star keeper-batter Rishabh Pant will join the squad for the competition. The selection meeting was held on Wednesday, December 10, in the presence of selectors Yashpal Singh, K. Bhaskar Pillai, Manu Nayar, coach Sarandeep Singh, Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) chairman Vijay Dahiya, and secretary Ashok Sharma.

Giving an update on Kohli and Pant's participation in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26, DDCA announced in an official release:

"The list of probables includes the players selected for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy squad. Additionally, Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant will be joining the team for the Vijay Hazare Trophy."

Kohli is active in just one international format, ODIs. The former India captain retired from T20Is after the side's 2024 T20 World Cup triumph. He called time on his Test career in May this year.

It remains to be seen how many matches Kohli and Pant will play in the tournament. Delhi will open their campaign on December 24 against Andhra. They are placed in Group D alongside Railways, Andhra, Haryana, Gujarat, Saurashtra, Services, and Odisha.

Virat Kohli's imperious run helped India win the IND vs SA 2025 ODI series

Virat Kohli was last seen in action during India's recently concluded three-match home ODI series against South Africa. He looked in terrific form and was named the Player of the Series following the Men in Blue's 2-1 victory.

The veteran batter played a stunning 135-run knock off 120 balls in the opening clash in Ranchi. He notched up back-to-back centuries, scoring 102 runs from 93 deliveries in Raipur, albeit in a losing cause.
