The latest ODI and T20I batter rankings saw several changes in opposite directions after India's white-ball tour of Australia. Veteran Indian batter Virat Kohli re-entered the top five, thanks mainly to Pakistan star Babar Azam's continued batting struggles.
The former Pakistan skipper scored only 45 runs in the recently-concluded three-ODI series against South Africa at a dismal average of 15. Babar also started the ongoing Sri Lankan ODI series slowly, scoring only 29 off 51 deliveries.
It meant he dropped two places from No.5 to 7 on the ODI batter rankings, helping Kohli move up a spot to 5th.
Team India also boasts two other batters, Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill, in the top five. The former remains the No.1-ranked ODI batter, while his successor as captain is fourth on the rankings.
Meanwhile, Tilak Varma endured a fall in his place on the latest T20I batter rankings after the five-match series in Australia. The southpaw scored only 34 runs at an average of under 12 in his three innings, resulting in him dropping two places to No.5.
Tilak's teammate, Abhishek Sharma, remains atop the T20I batter rankings after his Player of the Series showing in India's 2-1 series win over Australia.
Team India bowlers dominate the top of the rankings in two of the three formats
The latest bowler rankings demonstrated India's dominance across formats. Ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah continued his reign at the top of the Test bowler rankings, with New Zealand's Matt Henry jumping up a spot to No.2.
On the other hand, Varun Chakaravarthy remains rock-solid atop the T20I bowler rankings, thanks to his impressive showing in the recent Australian series. The veteran spinner finished with five wickets at an average of 16.40 and an economy of 6.83 in five matches.
Yet, when it comes to the ODI format, the Men in Blue have no bowler in the top five, with Kuldeep Yadav at No.6 being their highest-ranked. Incidentally, the left-arm spinner was part of India's playing XI in only one of the three Australian ODIs as the Men in Blue suffered a 1-2 series loss.
India's next assignment will be the two-Test series against South Africa at home, starting in Kolkata on November 14.
