Virat Kohli gives Ruturaj Gaikwad a bear hug after maiden century in IND vs SA 2025 2nd ODI [Watch]

Ruturaj Gaikwad starred with the bat in the second ODI between India and South Africa in Raipur on Wednesday, December 3. The right-handed batter took 77 deliveries to reach his maiden ODI ton. His innings comprised two sixes and 12 fours.

The achievement came in the 34th over of India’s innings. Gaikwad smashed back-to-back boundaries towards mid-on to reach the triple-figure mark. The 28-year-old got a bear hug from his batting partner, Virat Kohli, after completing his century. He then removed his helmet and raised his bat to soak in the applause.

Sharing the clip, the BCCI captioned the post on X:

"That maiden ODI hundred feeling! A Roaring knock in Raipur from Ruturaj Gaikwad."

Notably, Gaikwad made his comeback in the ODI side during the series opener for the first time since 2023. He departed for just eight runs but has made amends, delivering for the team in the absence of Shreyas Iyer (injured). The Mumbai batter had recently smashed 117 and 68* for India A against South Africa in One-Dayers.

A marathon partnership between Ruturaj Gaikwad and Virat Kohli helped India stay in command in the second ODI against the Proteas. The duo put on a 195-run partnership for the third wicket. Gaikwad departed after 105 off 83 balls as India lost their third wicket for 257.

At the time of writing, the Men in Blue were 258/3, with Kohli (97) and skipper KL Rahul (0) at the crease. Marco Jansen has been leading the wicket-taker for the tourists with two scalps.

The KL Rahul-led side won the opening game by 17 runs, thanks to Virat Kohli’s 52nd ODI ton. The senior batter smashed 135 off 120 balls. Meanwhile, Kuldeep Yadav bagged four wickets.

A win in the second ODI will help the hosts clinch the 50-over series.

Thus, South Africa must win the game to stay alive in the three-match series. They have not won an ODI series in India since their 3-2 victory in the 2015/16 series.
