Team India opener Rohit Sharma played a stunning 75-run knock off 73 balls at ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam, in the ongoing third and final ODI of the three-match series against South Africa on Saturday. The Men in Blue are chasing a 271-run target in the deciding encounter.

Sharma helped the hosts get off to a fantastic start. He struck three sixes and seven fours during his stay at the crease. However, the former captain missed out on a well-deserved century.

He lost his wicket in the 26th over while attempting the slog sweep off left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj's bowling. The 38-year-old ended up getting a top-edge and was caught by Matthew Breetzke at deep midwicket.

Rohit Sharma finished the three-match ODI series with two half-centuries and amassed 146 runs at an average of 48.66. Notably, he is currently placed at the No. 1 spot in the ICC ODI batting rankings.


Rohit Sharma becomes only the fourth Indian batter to score 20,000 runs in international cricket

Rohit Sharma crossed a significant milestone during his 75-run knock in the third ODI. He became the fourth Indian batter and 14th overall to cross 20,000 runs in men's international cricket.

The other three Indian batters in the elite list are Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli and Rahul Dravid. Meanwhile, Sharma formed an outstanding 155-run opening partnership from as many balls with Yashasvi Jaiswal.

After being asked to bat first, South Africa were bowled out for 270. Keeper-batter Quinton de Kock shone with the bat for the visitors, scoring 106 runs from 89 deliveries. Kuldeep Yadav and Prasidh Krishna were the top performers with the ball, taking four wickets each.

At the time of writing, India were 214/1 after 34 overs, with Yashasvi Jaiswal (96* off 105) and Virat Kohli (30* off 26) unbeaten at the crease.
