Team India batter Tilak Varma pulled off an acrobatic save to prevent a six during the second ODI against South Africa in Raipur. Although the youngster was not selected in the playing XI, he gave his all on the field, saving precious runs.

The incident occurred during the 20th over of the innings bowled by left-arm wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav. With a set Aiden Markram launching a delivery to long-on, it seemed like a certain six. But Tilak took the catch and realizing he was going over the boundary, the 23-year-old threw the ball inside the fence. The third umpire checked whether his feet had touched the ground over the fence but it didn't.

Here's the video of the save by the Hyderabad-born cricketer:

The left-handed batter has played four ODIs thus far, having made his 50-over international debut during Asia Cup 2023. But he hasn't been given the opportunity, with the management playing Ruturaj Gaikwad at number four.

Although Gaikwad failed in the first ODI, he struck a quick-fire 105 in the second, and it proved pivotal in the Men in Blue reaching 358/5 in 50 overs. At the time of writing, the Proteas were 201/3 in the steep run-chase, with Dewald Brevis and Matthew Breetzke are on the crease.

Tilak is certain to play in the upcoming five-game T20I series against South Africa, beginning on December 9, at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack. The T20I series will be crucial for the Men in Blue's World Cup defense, with the tournament scheduled to take place from February 7 to March 8. The Asian giants will also square off in five T20Is against New Zealand in January 2026.

The southpaw has a good record in T20Is, mustering 996 runs in 47 matches, averaging 47.42 and striking at 146.68, with two centuries and four fifites.
