A cricket-betting case has rocked the first Test between India and South Africa at the Eden Gardens, as officers of the Detective Department (DD) and Anti-Rowdy Squad (ARS) wings of Kolkata Police sprung into action. The Detective Department and Anti-Rowdy Squad arrested three men from the F1 block of the iconic venue for their involvement in cricket-betting.
The cops acted on a tip-off from Saturday, chasing down three men, who had reportedly engaged in illegal activity on mobile apps br365, R777, and 1xBook, among others, during the match. Nevertheless, a few others escaped. The ones held are Altaf Khan, Ankush Raj, and Patel Pinkal Kumar. None of them are from West Bengal. Altaf, 26, hails from Yavatmal in Maharashtra, while Ankush, 22, is from Bihar. Pinkal Kumar, aged 39, is from Unjha in Gujarat.
A senior officer of Kolkata police said, as quoted by Sportstar:
"All three detained persons were thoroughly checked. Some incriminating transactions could be found on their mobile phones. The phones were seized after screenshots of such transactions were obtained... Further investigation is underway."
The case was filed at the Maidan Police Station for offences under Sections 61(2)/318(4) of the Gambling Prize Competition Act.
Team India under pressure after shocking loss at the Eden Gardens

With the Eden Gardens hosting a Test after six years, the red-ball fixture didn't quite live up to the fans' expectations of seeing the hosts eke out a victory. Instead, the Asian Giants failed to chase down a paltry total of 123 in the fourth innings at the Eden Gardens.
South Africa had their backs to the wall coming into Day 3 but visiting captain Temba Bavuma scored a gritty 55* off 136 deliveries, while contributions followed from Marco Jansen (13) and Corbin Bosch (25), as the Proteas set a stiff 124-run target on a tricky surface. Later, Simon Harmer spun a web around the Indian batters, taking four wickets in the innings and eight in the match to fashion a 30-run victory.
After a defeat at the Eden Gardens, India and South Africa will go to Guwahati as the hosts look to level the two-match series.
