Former India batter Cheteshwar Pujara has criticized Yashasvi Jaiswal for his dismissal on Day 3 of the second Test against South Africa. He highlighted that the left-handed opener fell prey to a shot that wasn't on.

Jaiswal scored 58 runs off 97 deliveries as India were bowled out for 201 in their first innings in response to South Africa's first-innings total of 489 in Guwahati on Monday, November 24. The Proteas ended the day at 26 for no loss in their second innings, with a lead of 314 runs.

During a discussion on Star Sports, Pujara pointed out that Jaiswal played virtually a nothing shot after misreading the length of the delivery.

"We can say it was an in-between shot, because the length was slightly full, and went to play the ball off the back foot. He wanted to play a back-foot punch. This was no shot. You went back to a full ball. This shot was not on," he said.

Pujara added that the youngster should have defended the ball once he had gone back to a full delivery, terming it a potential concentration lapse.

"His attempt was to take a single in the gap between cover and point. The ball stopped a little. He first picked the length wrong. However, once you have committed a mistake and played a full ball on the back foot, you try to defend. Then you don't try to play a shot. You can call it a lapse of concentration," he observed.

Yashasvi Jaiswal was the second Indian wicket to fall. He was brilliantly caught by Marco Jansen at backward point while attempting a cut shot off Simon Harmer's bowling.

"He should be disappointed" - Parthiv Patel on Yashasvi Jaiswal's dismissal in IND vs SA 2025 2nd Test

In the same discussion, former India wicketkeeper-batter Parthiv Patel noted that Yashasvi Jaiswal should be disappointed with his dismissal.

"Obviously, he scored 58 runs, but he would be disappointed and he should be disappointed as well. The kind of pitch this is, you expect a set batter to play a long knock, and Yashasvi Jaiswal has that ability. When you are playing on the third day in India, the ball will turn a little and stop slightly," he said.

The cricketer-turned-commentator added that a set batter should have made a huge score on the Guwahati pitch.

"This is a pitch where a set batter plays a 150 or 200-run knock. I am not talking about a hundred, I am saying even more than that. So there should be disappointment in that dressing room, and you have to put more value on your wicket," Parthiv observed.

Yashasvi Jaiswal added 65 runs for the opening wicket with KL Rahul (22 off 63). India suffered a collapse after Jaiswal's dismissal, losing their next five wickets for just 27 runs.
