Team India pacer Mohammed Siraj was left frustrated by the Air India Express' decision to repeatedly delay his flight from Guwahati to Hyderabad on Wednesday, November 26, after the culmination of the Test series against South Africa. The bowler was on his way home following the recent record 408-run loss in the second Test at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium.
Siraj expressed his plight on social media, where he addressed the airline's lack of communication. The frustrated player even urged users not to book their tickets through the airline company after being stranded for over four hours without any update, along with the rest of the passengers.
"Air India flight no IX 2884 from Guwahati to Hyderabad was supposed to take off at 7.25 however there has been no communication from the airline and after repeatedly following up, they have just delayed the flight with no proper reasoning. This has been really frustrating and this is the basic ask by every passenger. Flight delayed by 4 hours and still no update has left us stranded. Worst airline experience. I really would would not advise anyone to take this flight if they can’t take a stand," Siraj posted on X on the night of November 26.
The airline issued a reply to the cricketer, updating that the flight was cancelled due to 'unforeseen operational reasons'.
"We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused, Mr Siraj. We regret to inform you that the flight has been cancelled due to unforeseen operational reasons. Our team at the airport is actively assisting all guests with the necessary arrangements. We understand how difficult this situation is, and we truly appreciate your patience and understanding. Please be assured that our team will continue to keep you updated and extend all possible support," Air India Express posted.
The right-arm pacer had an ordinary series against South Africa, picking up six wickets at an average of 29.00 and an economy of 3.55. He bowled only five overs in the second innings of the second Test as spinners took over the bowling load amid the Proteas' relentless charge to extend their lead beyond the hosts' reach.
Siraj bowled the fewest number of overs among Indian bowlers who featured in both matches. The pacer, who has had a hectic workload of late, chipped in with 49 overs across four innings, 30 of those coming in the first innings in Guwahati.
Mohammed Siraj was not included in the squad for IND vs SA 2025 ODIs
After gruelling campaigns in England, Australia, and most recently in India, Mohammed Siraj has a window to recover and charge himself. The right-arm pacer was not selected for the upcoming three-match home ODI series against South Africa, with the likes of Arshdeep Singh and Prasidh Krishna set to spearhead the seam attack.
He had also sustained a knock while putting in a dive during fielding in the second Test in Guwahati. However, the injury was not deemed to be serious by any stretch.
