Former South African captain Shaun Pollock believes Team India skipper Suryakumar Yadav was guilty of being overconfident after a positive start, resulting in his downfall in the third T20I in Dharamsala. Chasing only 118 for victory, the hosts coasted to 92/2 in the 12th over when Surya walked into bat.The right-hander smashed consecutive boundaries after starting slowly at four from eight deliveries. However, he fell off the next delivery in an attempt to strike a six over his favorite long leg region.Talking about Suryakumar Yadav's continued run of poor form after the game, Pollock said on Cricbuzz (5:47):"He's trying hard but everyone is fallible to a lack of confidence. And that's where he's at. He took a few balls to get going, then hit two fours. Then he thought I am bulletproof and tried one more and got out. So now he's back to the drawing board. But he's a class player and will come good. And the precedent is set that when you are the leader of a side or the vice captain, you get a little bit longer. So there won't be any issues with selection until the World Cup is over."Pollock also defended India sending in Tilak Varma at No.3 over Surya, saying:"It made sense because if a left-hander gets out, Tilak goes in. So if Shubman Gill had got out first, Surya might have come. So it's probably more of a team strategy than anything else."Surya has been in dismal form in T20Is this year, averaging 14.20 at a strike rate of under 126 in 20 matches. He is yet to score a half-century in T20Is in 2025."It was all down to his effort" - Shaun Pollock on Abhishek SharmaShaun Pollock praised dashing opener Abhishek Sharma for his heroics in the powerplay during India's run chase in the third T20I against South Africa. Despite the slightly tacky conditions, the southpaw made a mockery of the chase by smashing an 18-ball 35 to all but seal the win inside the powerplay."When you are chasing a low total, you want someone to go hard. Because if they do and it comes off, the game is broken as it was. After the powerplay, the game was broken. It was all down to his effort of 35," said Pollock (via the aforementioned source).A brilliant all-round performance saw India take a 2-1 series lead with a seven-wicket victory, heading into the penultimate T20I in Lucknow on Thursday, December 17.
