Virat Kohli (102) and Ruturaj Gaikwad (105) had scored brilliant hundreds earlier, while KL Rahul (66 not out off 43 balls) gave the hosts a powerful finish. South Africa lost an early wicket, but Aiden Markram (110) and Temba Bavuma (46) struck a 101-run stand for the second wicket.

India managed to pick six wickets but were unable to restrict the Proteas. Apart from Arshdeep Singh, who returned figures of 2/54 from 10 overs, and Ravindra Jadeja (0/41 from seven overs), all of the bowlers proved to be expensive. Prasidh Krishna ended with figures of 2/85 from 8.2 overs. Harshit Rana gave away 70 runs for a wicket from his 10 overs. Kuldeep Yadav returned figures of 1/78 from 10 overs. Moreover, the hosts also gave away 18 extras.

This was only the third time that South Africa successfully chased down a total in excess of 350 in ODIs. It was also the joint-highest target chased down against the Men in Blue.

Bowling a concern for India ahead of the third ODI?

The series will now head into the decider with South Africa having levelled 1-1. Visakhapatnam will host the final ODI on Saturday, December 6. The hosts will aim to bounce back from this defeat and clinch the series.

However, they will have a lot of thinking to do and improvements to make, particularly in their bowling. While they failed to defend a total in excess of 350 in the second ODI, it was a close affair in the first game as well.

Defending 349, they managed to bowl South Africa out for 332 in the final over and won by just 17 runs in the end. The bowling will certainly be an area of concern heading into the final ODI. KL Rahul and his troops will aim to put up a better effort and learn quickly from their mistakes in Raipur.
