South Africa spinner Simon Harmer has been nominated for the ICC Men’s Player of the Month award in November after the Proteas registered a 2-0 clean sweep in the two-match Test series in India. It was their first series win in Indian soil after 25 years.
Harmer bagged eight wickets in the series opener in Kolkata, including four-fers in the two innings. His exploits with the ball helped the tourists win the series opener by 30 runs while defending a modest target of 124.
The Proteas’ off-spinner then spun a web for the Indian batters again in the second Test, picking up nine wickets, including a six-wicket haul in the second innings. As a result, South Africa won the game by 408 runs. The 36-year-old was adjudged Player of the Series for his 17 scalps in two Tests.
Bangladesh spinner Taijul Islam is another contender to become ICC Men’s Player of the Month. The left-arm spinner picked up 13 wickets to help his team complete a 2-0 whitewash over Ireland. Like Harmer, he also won the Player of the Series award.
Pakistan all-rounder Mohammad Nawaz also made it to the nominees list. The all-rounder bagged 10 wickets and scored 52 runs as the Men in Green won the T20I tri-series involving Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe. Before that, the 31-year-old picked up six wickets and amassed 104 runs in five ODIs (three against South Africa and two versus Sri Lanka). His efforts helped Pakistan win both ODI series.
