Team India's ODI and Test captain Shubman Gill was seen at the airport on the way to the Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru on December 1, Monday. The 26-year-old was seen at the airport without the neck brace which he was wearing earlier due to a neck spasm he picked up during the first Test against South Africa last month.

Gill has been out of competitive cricket action since Day 2 of the opening Test against South Africa at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The right-hander sustained a neck spasm after batting only three deliveries and retired hurt. The Indian captain had to be taken to a private hospital but was discharged a couple of days later.

Nevertheless, the injury forced Gill to miss the second and final Test against South Africa in Guwahati, forcing Rishabh Pant to take up captaincy. The star batter was subsequently released from the squad and travelled to Mumbai for consultations with specialists for neck spasms. Below is the video of the Punjab-born cricketer at the airport:

According to a report on Cricbuzz, there is more than 50 per cent that the CoE will clear Gill to resume international cricket. A source on the same website indicated that the opening batter could play the T20I series against the Proteas and said:

"The captain has put in a lot of hard work during the rehab process. It is up to the CoE now. If everything goes according to plan, he should be in Cuttack by December 6-7, when the T20I squad is expected to assemble."

The injury has raised question marks about his workload, given he also holds leadership roles in all three formats.

While Gill is nursing his neck spasm, ODI vice-captain Shreyas Iyer is continuing to recover from the spleen injury sustained during the 50-over series in Australia while fielding. As a result, the selectors handed the captaincy duties to KL Rahul for India's 50-overs leg against South Africa.

The Men in Blue emerged triumphant by 17 runs in a high-scoring first ODI in Ranchi on November 30, Sunday. Virat Kohli's 135 off 120 deliveries was pivotal in giving India a strong total of 349/8 in 50 overs, post which Kuldeep Yadav and Harshit Rana combined to share seven wickets.
