Team India captain Shubman Gill has reportedly been discharged from the Woodlands hospital in Kolkata following the hosts' shock defeat to South Africa in the first of the two Tests at the Eden Gardens. Nevertheless, the right-handed batter remains uncertain for the second Test as Team India await clarity on his availability.The 26-year-old's absence made a massive difference during India's run-chase of 124 in the fourth innings, as it left them one specialist batter short. Under tricky conditions, the hosts crashed to 93 all out, losing by 30 runs to concede a 1-0 lead in the series. Gill's neck injury sustained on Day 2 after facing only three deliveries meant he had to be admitted to a private hospital. The physio had rushed onto the field and the Punjab-born cricketer was wearing a cervical collar as a precaution.The BCCI issued the below statement ahead of Day 3's play:"Captain Shubman Gill had a neck injury on Day 2 of the ongoing Test against South Africa in Kolkata. He was taken to the hospital for examination after the end of the day’s play. He is currently under observation in the hospital. He will take no further part in the Test.
