Former Indian opener Sadagoppan Ramesh raised doubts about the Chennai Super Kings potentially acquiring Sanju Samson from the Rajasthan Royals (RR) for Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran ahead of the IPL 2026 auction. While the deal has yet to be officially confirmed, all reports suggest that the trade is almost certain to go through.Ramesh questioned Samson's ability to prosper on the turning tracks in Chennai, pointing to his subpar IPL record at the Chepauk Stadium. The 31-year-old has averaged a dismal 11.80 in five games at the venue in his IPL career.Talking about the Samson trade to CSK on his YouTube channel, Ramesh said:"Sanju Samson doesn't have great numbers at Chepauk. But it's a small sample size, so if he plays continuously there, he'll likely thrive there as well. Yet, there is a question mark about his batting on turning tracks. Jadeja is an unplayable bowler on turning tracks, while Samson hasn't produced great performances on turning tracks."He added:"So, leaving Jadeja will definitely weaken CSK. But whether acquiring Sanju strengthens them remains to be seen. Likewise, Jadeja will also be challenged at RR because of the flat wickets there."Samson and Jadeja have been mainstays in RR and CSK over the past eight IPL seasons. They also enjoyed earlier stints at those franchises until 2015 before two-year shifts to the Delhi Capitals (DC) and Gujarat Lions (GL), respectively, when RR and CSK were banned from the IPL in 2016 and 2017."Jadeja has especially been the biggest commander of Chepauk for CSK" - Sadagoppan RameshSadagoppan Ramesh believes CSK will miss Ravindra Jadeja in all departments, especially in their home games. The 36-year-old has played a vital role in each of CSK's last three IPL titles in 2018, 2021, and 2023."Jadeja has especially been the biggest commander of Chepauk for CSK. He has singlehandedly won so many matches for CSK. Even if his overall numbers don't give a staggering effect, he has delivered in several key moments. Also with his fielding and catching, he must have saved an extra 200-300 runs overall for CSK. He still has an easy 2-3 years left in the IPL with his fitness," said Ramesh (via the aforementioned source).Despite Jadeja's consistent performances, his lack of impact was evident last season, when CSK finished at the bottom of the table for the first time in franchise history. Nevertheless, the veteran all-rounder finished with impressive numbers of over 300 runs and 10 wickets in 14 outings.
