Former Indian and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batter Subramaniam Badrinath believes Sanju Samson holds more value compared to Ravindra Jadeja at the moment, when discussing the potential trade involving the two stars. As per the latest ESPN Cricinfo reports, CSK are almost certain to trade Jadeja and Sam Curran to the Rajasthan Royals (RR) for Samson ahead of the 2026 IPL auction. The two centerpieces of the deal, Samson and Jadeja, have been pillars of their respective franchises, RR and CSK, for several years. The former has been with RR from 2018, apart from his first three IPL seasons from 2013 to 2015.Meanwhile, Jadeja has been with CSK since 2012, barring the two seasons (2016 and 2017), when the franchise was suspended from the IPL.Talking about the RR side of the trade in a conversation on Star Sports, Badrinath said (2:24):"The other side is whether RR are okay with this. Because, Samson's current value in the IPL is more than Jadeja. That's why they may not want only Jadeja but also another player. If I was RR, I won't accept this deal without the second player."He added:"I still believe that Jadeja is on the downward trend but Sanju Samson has prime cricket left in him in the IPL. Even though I am getting Jadeja, if I was RR, I'll want Dewald Brevis and take a chance with that."While Jadeja is 36 and has retired from T20Is, Samson is at the heart of his prime at 30, playing an integral role in India's current T20I setup."More important to find out what MS Dhoni is thinking" - Subramaniam BadrinathSubramaniam Badrinath believes MS Dhoni will play a vital role in the Ravindra Jadeja trade, given their successful partnership as captain and player for CSK. Dhoni has led the franchise to all five of their IPL titles, with Jadeja starring in the last three in 2018, 2021, and 2023."The Dhoni-Jadeja partnership has worked brilliantly for CSK. More than any of us, it's more important to find out what MS Dhoni is thinking. CSK will think not once or twice but almost 100 times before giving away Jadeja for Sanju Samson. The reason for that is MS Dhoni. He has a lot of trust in Jadeja, who has won him many matches," said Badrinath (via the aforementioned source). He concluded:"In fact, it was MS Dhoni who created Ravindra Jadeja. If Jadeja has become what he has today, he has been mentored by MS Dhoni. So this will be a tough call, involving long discussions."CSK endured their worst IPL season this year, finishing at the bottom of the points table for the first time in franchise history. Yet, Jadeja was statistically impressive as their primary all-rounder, finishing with over 300 runs and 10 wickets.
