Senuran Muthusamy ended Sai Sudharsan’s defiance on Day 5 of the second Test between India and South Africa at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati on Wednesday, November 26. The left-handed batter departed for 14 runs off 139 balls as the hosts lost their sixth wicket for 96.

The dismissal came in the 48th over of India’s second innings. Muthusamy bowled a tossed-up delivery outside off, and Sudharsan pressed forward to counter the spin. The left-handed batter, however, missed the line completely as the ball took an outside edge towards Aiden Markam, who bagged his eighth catch of the game, equaling the record of former India captain Ajinkya Rahane.

Sai Sudharsan failed to leave his mark after returning to the playing XI for the second Test. The southpaw managed 15 and 13, respectively, putting a question mark over his Test future. Notably, India will play their next Test against Sri Lanka (away) in August 2026.

Chasing 549 against South Africa, India were 102/6, with Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar at the crease at the time of writing. The Men in Blue were bundled out for 201 in their first innings in response to SA’s 489, handing them a significant first-innings lead. The visitors then declared their second innings for 260/5.

The Men in Blue lost the series opener by 30 runs. It was their first Test loss to the Proteas at home after 2010.

Notably, South Africa are chasing their first Test series win on Indian soil since the 1999/2000 series. Temba Bavuma is yet to lose a Test match as captain, winning 10 out of his first 11 games, including a draw. He led the Proteas to their first ICC World Test Championship title earlier this year.
