Ruturaj Gaikwad tries to hit Marco Jansen for a six and perishes on 105 in IND vs SA 2025 2nd ODI [Watch]

Ruturaj Gaikwad's brilliant innings came to an end in the second ODI between India and South Africa on Wednesday, December 3. The game is being played in Raipur.

Ruturaj Gaikwad was dismissed in the 36th over of India's innings after they were put into bat first. On the fourth ball of the over by Marco Jansen, Gaikwad tried to slam a six but unfortunately failed to find the right execution. He went for the aerial pull shot on a short ball but could not find the required elevation. Tony de Zorzi ended up taking the catch at deep backward square leg as Gaikwad perished after scoring his maiden ODI century.

Gaikwad appeared disappointed as he took the long walk back to the pavilion. However, he received a standing ovation from the crowd for his stellar knock.

The 28-year-old scored 105 runs off just 83 balls. His knock included 12 fours and two maximums at a strike-rate of 126.51. Moreover, he was involved in a record 195-run stand with Virat Kohli for the third-wicket. The partnership came off just 156 balls.


Ruturaj Gaikwad shines on ODI comeback

Before the start of the second ODI against South Africa, Ruturaj Gaikwad had just 123 runs from seven games in the format with a half-century. He had last played an ODI in 2023 before the ongoing South Africa series and returned to the team after a long gap.

In the first game, he made just eight runs off 14 balls. However, he proved his worth with a scintillating hundred in the second game, shining on his comeback into the national team. His previous best score of 71 in the format had come against Australia at Mohali in 2023.

Notably, Ruturaj Gaikwad got to his century in just 77 balls. This was the second-fastest hundred in ODIs for India against South Africa. Gaikwad is only behind former all-rounder Yusuf Pathan, who holds the record for the fastest hundred against the Proteas for India in the format. He had slammed a century off just 68 balls in Centurion in 2011.
