Team India batter Ruturaj Gaikwad was left flat on his back at the non-striker's end after barely evading a fiery Virat Kohli stroke down the ground in the second ODI against South Africa in Raipur on Wednesday, December 3. The No.4 batter luckily escaped with just a graze to his arm as he moved in time to avoid a serious blow to his body.

The right-handed pair were in cruise control mode in the middle overs as they piled on the runs on a good batting surface against a lackluster South African bowling display. The opening delivery of the 34th over saw Kohli take down Corbin Borsch with a full-blooded strike down the ground.

Gaikwad had to react quickly at the non-striker's end as the ball was travelling towards him at full speed. He got himself in an awkward shape while trying to move away from the ball's path, but remained unscathed, with the ball going past him to the boundary. Have a look at the incident right here:

A similar instance had occurred in the early stages of their partnership as well. In the 20th over, against the same bowler, Kohli walked down the pitch and smashed the ball down the ground. Even on that occasion, Gaikwad was sharp and avoided being hit to escape an injury by ducking, and the ball traveled to the fence for a boundary.

The right-handed batter's maiden ODI hundred ended right after the milestone as he holed out to the deep off Marco Jansen's bowling in the 36th over. He scored 105 runs off 83 deliveries, handing India a stellar platform to build their way to another mammoth score.

Virat Kohli, on the other hand, has inched his way to his second successive hundred to continue his sublime run of form. At the time of writing, the score reads 275-3 after 38 overs.
