Team India opener Rohit Sharma dazzled the viewers by hitting back-to-back sixes off South African spinner Prenelan Subrayen's bowling in the ongoing ODI series opener in Ranchi on Sunday, November 30. The Proteas won the toss and chose to field first.

The Men in Blue were off to a shaky start, with Yashasvi Jaiswal falling to left-arm pacer Nandre Burger in the fourth over. Sharma and Virat Kohli helped the hosts get off to an impressive start despite the early breakthrough.

Sharma put Prenelan Subrayen under pressure by launching a counter-attack in the 15th over. The off-spinner commenced the over with a tossed-up delivery outside the off stump.

The veteran batter sent the ball over the mid-wicket fence with an authoritative slog sweep. Subrayen persisted with his plan and followed it up with another flighted ball.

Sharma once again played the slog sweep and cleared the mid-wicket boundary for another maximum. Here's a video of the former India captain's back-to-back sixes:

It is worth noting that with the second six, Rohit Sharma equalled the record for most sixes in ODIs held by former Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi.

Afridi held the top spot with 351 maximums from 369 innings. Sharma matches Afridi's tally of ODI sixes in just 269 innings. Sharma surpassed Afridi later in the match. He claimed the world record with a brilliant six to Marco Jansen in the 20th over.

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli put India in a commanding position with a stunning partnership

South Africa were off to an ideal start with the ball, as Yashasvi Jaiswal was back in the pavilion early. However, senior players Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli steadied the ship for the home team with a crucial partnership.

At the time of writing, the two have added 128* runs off 101 deliveries for the second wicket. India are 153/1 after 20 overs, with Kohli (65 off 57 balls) and Sharma (56 off 47 balls) still at the crease.

Notably, this is the second century stand between the two ace batters in the format. The two stitched together a splendid 168*-run partnership from 170 balls in India's nine-wicket win over Australia in Sydney last month.
