India's star opener Rohit Sharma departed cheaply in the second ODI against South Africa in Raipur on Wednesday, December 3. The right-handed batter was caught behind by Quinton de Kock, perishing for 14 runs off eight deliveries as the Men in Blue lost their first wicket for 40.

The dismissal came in the fifth over of India's innings. Nandre Burger bowled a length ball angling away from the right-hander. Rohit tried to defend from the crease, but the ball brushed the bat, inducing an outside edge. The on-field umpire wasn't interested, but de Kock convinced the bowler and skipper Temba Bavuma to use a DRS review.

The replays showed a faint nick, and it was all curtains for the senior batter. The former captain didn’t look convinced. He shared a disappointing look before walking off the crease.

With the prized wicket, the Proteas got off to a solid start. Notably, Rohit Sharma was coming on the back of three consecutive half-centuries, including 57 off 51 in the first ODI against the Proteas. He was dismissed by another left-arm bowler, Marco Jansen, in the last game.

India field an unchanged side after winning the series opener against SA by 17 runs in Ranchi; lose their 20th consecutive toss

The KL Rahul-led side fielded an unchanged side after winning the first ODI against South Africa by 17 runs in Ranchi on Sunday, November 30. Virat Kohli starred with the bat, hitting his 52nd ODI ton. They will now look to win the second game and take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.

On the other hand, the Proteas made changes to their playing XI. The tourists will be keen to bounce back in the series. They have not won an ODI series on Indian soil since the 2015-16 series, when they won 3-2.

Earlier in the day, the Men in Blue lost their 20th consecutive toss. They, however, have a 63% win percentage in their last 19 matches.

Asked to bat first by the Temba Bavuma-led side, the hosts were 47/1 after six overs, with Yashasvi Jaiswal and Virat Kohli at the crease.
