Team India opening batter Rohit Sharma capitalised on South Africa's erratic new ball bowling to smash three consecutive boundaries in the second ODI in Raipur on Wednesday, December 3. The pair of Nandre Burger and Lungi Ngidi were wayward with their areas early on as the Men in Blue raked in a brisk start after being put into bat first.
Rohit Sharma had to play the part of the second fiddle early on after being up against a barrage of wide deliveries. After Yashasvi Jaiswal largely dominated the strike across the first four overs, the Hitman finally had his turn against Nandre Burger.
The right-handed opening batter was able to make the most of the left-arm pacer's express pace to dominate right away. Off the first ball of the over, he looked to fend off a good delivery with soft hands, but managed to get a boundary as the outside edge travelled to the fence through the gap between slip and short third man.
Rohit Sharma executed a sublime flick with conviction and elegance to keep the ball on the ground and guide it through the midwicket region for another boundary. He managed to get three fours in a row after the outside edge came to his aid once again. The ball trickled through the offside infield to put the bowler under some serious pressure. Rohit Sharma had struck successive sixes in the first ODI as well after dishing out two slog sweeps against right-arm off-spinner Prenelan Subrayen.
Nandre Burger had the last laugh as he dismissed Rohit Sharma for 14 in IND vs SA 2025 2nd ODI
The veteran opener's onslaught came to an abrupt halt as he nicked one to wicket-keeper Quinton de Kock in the fifth delivery of the fifth over. He looked to defend a length delivery, but it caught a faint outside edge on the way to the gloves behind the wicket.
The on-field umpire was not convinced by the appeal led by the wicket-keeper, prompting skipper Temba Bavuma to take a review. Ultra-edge showcased a small spike, which left Rohit Sharma in disbelief as he had to depart for 14 runs off eight deliveries.
