Team India opening batter Rohit Sharma was helpless after a Marco Jansen delivery kept low to trap him LBW in the first ODI against South Africa at the JSCA International Stadium in Ranchi on Sunday, November 30. The veteran player was at his best during his 51-ball stay at the crease, where he scored 57 runs in a massive partnership with Virat Kohli.

Coming on the back of an imperious tour of Australia, Rohit Sharma began from where he left off to take on the South African bowlers. He had a jittery moment early on after a half-hearted pull shot, which was dropped by Tony de Zorzi in the deep off Nandre Burger's bowling.

In the second half of the first powerplay, the Hitman started raking in the runs, before going after the spinners once the fielding restrictions were lifted. He smashed two consecutive sixes off slog sweeps against Prenelan Subrayen to ramp India's scoring even further.

After reaching his 60th ODI half-century, Rohit Sharma hit a trademark pull shot off Marco Jansen's bowling to record the 352nd six of his ODI career, a new world record. He overtook Shahid Afridi's existing record despite recording 100 fewer appearances.

However, in the left-arm pacer's very next over, the opener was undone by a back-of-a-length delivery that kept quite low. He was nowhere near making contact with the ball when he was struck on the pads, and was adjudged out by the umpire. After a brief discussion with Virat Kohli at the other end, he walked off without taking a review. Have a look at the dismissal right here:

Ball-tracking suggested that the impact was in line, while the low bounce meant that the ball was bound to hit the stumps. The dismissal ended a brilliant 136-run partnership for the second wicket.

Team India in a comfortable position despite Rohit Sharma's dismissal in IND vs SA 2025 1st ODI

The Men in Blue were placed at 161-2 in the 22nd over when Rohit Sharma perished in an unfortunate manner. The wicket brought on Ruturaj Gaikwad to the crease, in an unconventional No.4 role, as he features in an ODI for the first time in almost two years.

At the time of writing, Team India's score reads 180-2 in the 26th over, with Virat Kohli nearing a memorable hundred while Gaikwad is settling in as the new batter at the crease.
