Team India batting star Rohit Sharma broke ex-Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi's long-standing record for most sixes in ODI cricket. The right-handed batter did so during the ongoing first ODI between India and South Africa at the JSCA International Stadium complex in Ranchi on Sunday, November 30, as he hit his 352nd six of his 50-over international career.
The incident occurred during the 20th over of the innings bowled by Proteas new-ball and left-arm seamer Marco Jansen. With Jansen unleashing the short-pitched delivery, the 39-year-old was quick to latch on to it and send the ball over the deep square leg region as the fielder was a mere spectator.
Afridi, who played a staggering 398 ODIs, finished with 351 sixes under his belt but Rohit has moved to the top.

Earlier, South Africa's stand-in captain Aiden Markram had won the toss and opted to field first, citing the dew factor later in the evening.
Rohit Sharma dismissed by Marco Jansen for 57

Having been dropped by Tony de Zorzi when on 1, the Nagpur-born cricketer made the visitors pay by playing some sumptuous shots. However, he couldn't kick on to make a triple-figure score as Jansen trapped him LBW for 57 in the 22nd over of the innings. With the pitch generating low bounce, the ball struck on Rohit's pad and he walked off the field without reviewing the on-field umpire's decision.
The wicket by the towering Proteas seamer also ended the partnership of 136-run stand with Virat Kohli, who had also reached his fifty by then. Nandre Burger claimed the first wicket of Yashasvi Jaiswal for 18 in the fourth over. Following the 136-run stand between Kohli and Rohit, South Africa have managed to pull things back a touch as they have also sent Ruturaj Gaikwad packing for 8.
The tourists are having an excellent tour of India thus far, winning the preceding Test series 2-0 and will be keen to keep that momentum going with a win in Ranchi.
