Team India captain KL Rahul played a blistering knock to give the hosts a solid finish in the second ODI against South Africa in Raipur on December 3. The Men in Blue finished with a solid total of 358/5 on the board batting first.

While Ruturaj Gaikwad and Virat Kohli struck hundreds earlier, it was Rahul's responsibility to ensure India finished well. Batting at number five, he scored a sensational unbeaten half-century. The right-hander made 66* off just 43 balls at a strike-rate of 153.49. His swashbuckling innings included six boundaries and two sixes.

He unleashed himself towards the backend, particularly in the last three balls of the Indian innings, scoring 12 runs with a boundary and a six. Fans were awestruck by his sensational hitting and hailed him for his quickfire knock.

It was his 20th half-century in ODIs to go with seven centuries as well. He now has 3,218 runs at an average of 49.50 in 90 matches in the format.


Back-to-back fifties for KL Rahul

KL Rahul has been enjoying his time as captain of India in the ongoing ODI series. His half-century in the second game was his second consecutive fifty. He had scored a crucial fifty in the first match in Ranchi as well.

While Kohli scored a century and Rohit Sharma made 57 at the top, it was Rahul who made a brisk fifty at the backend. He made 60 runs off 56 balls at a strike-rate of 107.14 with two boundaries and three sixes.

Rahul has taken responsibility at the backend, carrying out his role perfectly at number five. He has shown solid form so far with the bat in this series. Particularly in overs 41-50, he has been exceptional in ODIs, scoring 424 runs at a strike-rate of 142.76.
