Former Indian cricketer Dodda Ganesh slammed the team management for shaking things up amid a disastrous display on Day 3 of the second Test against South Africa. The Men in Blue came into the contest with two changes to their playing XI, and are in all sorts of trouble in the first innings at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati.
The hosts tweaked their batting order once again after the humbling defeat in the series opener in Kolkata. With the likes of Sai Sudharsan and Nitish Kumar Reddy being brought into the playing XI for the injured Shubman Gill and the left-handed Axar Patel, all-rounder Washington Sundar was demoted in the batting order.
The in-form player was slotted in at No.3 in the first Test, where he chipped in with some promising cameos. However, he batted as low as No.8 in the ongoing clash at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati, with fellow all-rounders Ravindra Jadeja and Nitish Kumar Reddy both being sent ahead of him in a time of crisis.
Dodda Ganesh failed to understand the logic behind Washington Sundar's batting position, given the glaring lack of consistency.
"Washington Sundar, after playing two quality inns in the last test at no 3, inexplicably gets demoted to no 8, in the very next test. Never seen a more confused Indian test team ever," the former player posted on X.
Sai Sudharsan was dismissed for 15 runs off 40 deliveries on his return to the No.3. The other middle-order batters also did not fare well as Washington Sundar came out to bat at No.8, with the score reading 119-6.
At the time of writing, the all-rounder is unbeaten on 17 runs off 21 deliveries, with a couple of boundaries to his name.
"Not able to believe my eyes" - Dodda Ganesh on India's Day 3 performance in IND vs SA 2025 2nd Test
Team India endured a humiliating collapse from 95-1 to 122-7 in the blink of an eye to lose all hope for a productive result. The extent of the downfall means that the hosts may have to bat again on Day 3, if South Africa proceed to enforce the follow-on after making quick work of the lower order.
"India may be batting again today. Not able to believe my eyes," he wrote.
India are currently struggling at 141-7, trailing by 348 runs in the first innings. They need 148 runs to avoid follow-on, and are staring at a shocking series defeat at home yet again.
