Shreyas played an important part in the 2025 Champions Trophy victory. He was the highest run-getter for the Men in Blue with 243 runs from five matches at an average of 48.60 with two half-centuries.

Shreyas shares his birthday with five other Indian cricketers (one former). These are Karun Nair, Ravindra Jadeja, Ashul Kamboj, Jasprit Bumrah, and RP Singh.

Star India batter unlikely to return in India colors soon

Meanwhile, Shreyas Iyer has been out of action after he suffered a life-threatening injury in the third ODI during the Australia tour. As he completed a diving catch, he sustained a severe injury to his abdomen, which resulted in a laceration of his spleen and caused internal bleeding.

He was immediately taken to a hospital in Sydney, where he underwent surgery and was later discharged. The star batter was forced to miss the ongoing home ODI series against South Africa.

Fortunately, the star batter has begun his rehab and is on the path to gaining full recovery. However, as it was a serious injury, Shreyas is expected to remain out of the team for a long time. He could possibly be seen in action next in the IPL 2026. He was made the vice-captain of the ODI side for the Australia series. Due to his injury, Ruturaj Gaikwad replaced him for the South Africa ODIs.

The 31-year-old has played 14 Tests, 73 ODIs, and 51 T20Is so far in his international career.
