Former Indian opener Kris Srikkanth hilariously stated that Australian all-rounder Cameron Green must already be planning big on spending his money after the upcoming IPL 2026 auction. Srikkanth's remarks were a reaction to the recent withdrawals and retirements of Andre Russell, Glenn Maxwell, Faf du Plessis, and Moen Ali from the IPL.

While Green was already touted to be the marquee attraction in the IPL auction, the lack of other big names has further enhanced his value, according to the former Indian captain.

Reacting to the recent IPL withdrawals, Srikkanth said on his YouTube channel (25:00):

"Because of all this, Cameron Green has already plotted for a massive area in Sydney. He's going to be the highest bidder, there is no one else there. Green must be plotting how much land to buy near a beach in Sydney or Melbourne and in Perth if he goes out with his family. The bidding war will go on and on for him."

Green aside, the 1983 World Cup winner also believes the recent developments will work in Venkatesh Iyer's favor at the auction.

"Venkatesh Iyer will probably do well again at the auction. Because he is the only semi-all-rounder from India. Cameron Green is the only authentic all-rounder," he said.

While Green has been in red-hot form in T20Is since his return from injury this year, Iyer struggled for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in IPL 2025. It meant the franchise released the left-hander, a year after acquiring him for a whopping ₹23.75 crore.

Kris Srikkanth further believes Faf du Plessis, Moeen Ali, and Mohit Sharma feared going unsold in the auction, which forced them to skip or retire from the IPL. While Faf and Ali confirmed their participation in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) set to be played at the same time next year, Mohit announced his retirement from all forms of cricket.

"They are also fearful of what happens if no one picks them in the IPL auction. Not Russell and Maxwell, they would have got picked up. But Moeen Ali, Faf du Plessis and Mohit Sharma, they may have not been picked up in auction also. So they don't want to go through that embarrassment of being unsold," said Srikkanth (via the aforementioned source).

Russell has confirmed his retirement from the IPL to join the KKR support staff as the power coach. Meanwhile, the 2026 auction will be a day-long event in Abu Dhabi on December 16.
