Mohammed Siraj helped India finally get rid of centurion Senuran Muthusamy on Day 2 of the second Test against South Africa at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati on Sunday, November 23. Senuran was caught out, departing for 109 runs off 206 balls. The wicket also ended a 97-run stand between Muthuswamy and Marco Jansen for the eighth wicket.

The dismissal came in the 139th over of the Proteas’ first innings and the second over after lunch break. Siraj began the over with a bouncer, and Muthusamy rolled his wrists but failed to keep the ball down. The southpaw ended up getting a top-edge that flew straight towards Yashasvi Jaiswal at fine leg. The fielder ran in a few yards from the rope and took it at a comfortable height.

It was Mohammed Siraj’s second wicket of the match, having dismissed Tony de Zorzi before stumps on Day 1. The speedster also picked up four wickets in the first Test against South Africa in Kolkata. The 31-year-old has scalped 43 wickets (and counting) in Tests this year.

Senuran Muthusamy, Marco Jansen, and Kyle Verreynne frustrate India on Day 2

A brilliant batting performance from Senuran Muthusamy, Marco Jansen, and Kyle Verreynne frustrated India on Day 2. Muthusamy, in particular, shared 88 and 97-run stands with Verreynne (45) and Jansen for the seventh and eighth wickets, respectively. Notably, the Proteas resumed the day at 247/6.

At the time of writing, SA were 444/8, with Jansen (65 off 67) and Simon Harmer (0) at the crease.

The Temba Bavuma-led side is leading the two-match series 1-0 following their 30-run victory in Kolkata. Simon Harmer spun a web for Indian batters, returning with a four-fer in each innings. It was South Africa’s first win in India after 2010. The tourists will now be gunning to win a Test series in India for the first time since the 1999/2000 series.

Meanwhile, India will look to fight back and level the series 1-1. The Gautam Gambhir-coached side will also try to ensure they avoid their second Test series at home since the 0-3 whitewash by New Zealand last year.
