The breakthrough came on the fifth ball of the 82nd over. Jansen delivered a short-of-a-length ball outside off, which Kuldeep tried to defend with an open face. The ball took the outside edge and flew to Aiden Markram’s left at second slip, where he completed a sharp catch, bringing an end to Kuldeep’s gritty resistance.

In reply, India got off to a steady start as openers KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal added 65 runs before the former fell for 22. Jaiswal went on to score 58, but Sai Sudharsan (15) and Dhruv Jurel (0) had disappointing outings.

The middle order also struggled, with Rishabh Pant (7), Ravindra Jadeja (6), and Nitish Kumar Reddy (10) falling cheaply as India slumped to 122/7. Washington Sundar (48) then put together a 72-run partnership for the eighth wicket with Kuldeep Yadav (19), offering some resistance.

However, South Africa continued to strike at regular intervals, eventually bowling India out for 201 in 83.5 overs to take a substantial 288-run first-innings lead. Jansen was the pick of the bowlers, returning excellent figures of 6/48 in 19.5 overs.
