Kuldeep Yadav gives first breakthrough as Ryan Rickleton goes for 11 in IND vs SA 2025 1st Test [Watch]

Kuldeep Yadav provided the first breakthrough for India on Day 2 by dismissing Ryan Rickelton at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Saturday, November 15. The left-arm wrist-spinner trapped Rickelton lbw for 11 as the Proteas lost their first wicket with a 12-run deficit.

The dismissal in the seventh over of the Proteas’ second innings and the last ball before tea break. Kuldeep bowled a flighted delivery on a good length, and Rickelton stayed back to defend, expecting the ball to spin. To his surprise, the ball continued its straight line and he was plumb in front of the Stumps. The ball tracking showed it would’ve crashed into the leg stump.

Kuldeep Yadav had also bagged two wickets in the first innings against the Proteas. Meanwhile, Rickelton failed twice with the bat, perishing for 23 in the first essay.


India vs South Africa first Test evenly poised; 9 wickets fall before Tea on Day 2

A clinical bowling effort helped South Africa come in equal terms against India in the first Test on Day 2. Simon Harmer spun a web, picking up four wickets, while Marco Jansen scalped two. The hosts were bundled out for 189 in their first innings, managing just a 30-run lead. The wickets fell in clusters after Harmer broke the 57-run stand between KL Rahul (39) and Washington Sundar (29), respectively.

A total of nine wickets fell before the tea break as India lost eight wickets. Notably, skipper Shubman Gill was retired hurt after a neck spasm.

Earlier on Day 1, the Proteas were bowled out for 159 in their first innings. World No.1-ranked Test bowler Jasprit Bumrah bagged a fifer, while Mohammed Siraj and Kuldeep Yadav scalped two wickets apiece.

At the time of writing, SA were 18/1 at Tea in their second innings, with Aiden Markram at the crease. They are trailing by 12 runs.

SA have failed to win a Test match in India since 2010. With the game evenly poised, the World Test Champions will be keen to challenge the Men in Blue.
