India captain KL Rahul led by example in the series opener between India and South Africa at JSCA Stadium in Ranchi on Sunday, November 30. The wicketkeeper-batter nailed a ramp shot for a maximum in the penultimate over bowled by Marco Jansen.
The audacious hit came off the fourth delivery of the 49th over. Jansen bowled a fuller-length ball outside the leg stump, and Rahul guessed it to perfection. The right-handed batter pulled out the reverse scoop, and the ball sailed over the third man region for a maximum.

KL Rahul slammed 60 runs off 56 balls with the help of three sixes and two fours. The 33-year-old was struggling at 29 off 40 after 44 overs before turning things around with two sixes off Nandre Burger in the next over.

A clinical batting display from Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, and Rohit Sharma helped India reach 349/8 in their allotted 50 overs. Kohli starred with the bat, scoring 135 runs off 120 balls with the help of seven sixes and 11 fours. Rahul and Rohit chipped in with 60 (56) and 57 (51), respectively. Ravindra Jadeja also played a handy knock, scoring 32 off 20 deliveries.
On the other hand, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Washington Sundar failed with the bat, perishing for 18 (16), 8 (14), and 13 (19), respectively.
Marco Jansen, Nandre Burger, Corbin Bosch, and Ottneil Baartman picked up two wickets apiece for the Proteas.
With Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj rested for the ODI series, Arshdeep Singh, Prasidh Krishna, and Harshit Rana will look to step up in the match.
India will now look to register back-to-back wins against the Proteas in Ranchi, having won the last game by seven wickets in 2022. The Men in Blue have won their last two ODI series against South Africa, who haven’t won in India since their 3-2 victory in 2015-16.
