South Africa spinner Keshav Maharaj picked up the last two Indian wickets to inflict a 408-run defeat in the second Test at the Baraspara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati on Wednesday, November 26. The left-arm spinner picked up two wickets in five deliveries, dismissing Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Siraj to seal a 2-0 series victory.

The dismissals occurred in the 64th over of the fourth innings. Batting at 54, Jadeja stepped out for a big shot, but the lack of bounce meant that the ball sneaked under his bat. Proteas keeper Kyle Verreynne completed an easy stumping.

Meanwhile, Siraj also went for the big shot, as Marco Jansen ran back from mid-on, sticking out his left hand to complete the catch. The tourists ran in to mob the left-arm seamer to celebrate a stunning series victory.

Ruling the show once again was Simon Harmer, who picked up six wickets in the second innings in Guwahati to go with three in the first. Team India began their day at 27/2, hoping to salvage a draw, given they were set an improbable target of 549. After cleaning up KL Rahul for 13 late on Day 4, Harmer picked up the first wicket of the final day by dismissing Kuldeep Yadav.

The 36-year-old went on to dismiss Dhruv Jurel (2), Rishabh Pant (13), Washington Sundar (16), and Nitish Kumar Reddy (0). He ended up with outstanding figures of 23-6-37-6 to inflict the heaviest defeat, by runs, on Team India in the longest format. With 17 scalps, Harmer was declared the Player of the Series.
