Team India youngster Yashasvi Jaiswal failed to make the most of yet another chance in the ODI team after perishing for 22 runs off 38 deliveries in the second match against South Africa in Raipur on Wednesday, December 3. The opening batter was far from his assured, and convinced self as he was dismissed by Marco Jansen, yet again.
After an ordinary outing in the series opener in Ranchi, where he scored 18 runs off 16 deliveries, expectations were high from the southpaw, filling in for the injured Shubman Gill at the top of the order. However, amid a wayward start by the South African pacers with the new ball, Jaiswal also failed to settle in despite getting off the mark with a boundary through the off side.
The youngster dominated the strike across the first four overs, but after recording 11 runs off his first 10 deliveries, he only scored two runs off his next 11 deliveries, taking all of his early momentum away.
Jaiswal tried to take on left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj straightaway, but in his bid to unsettle the bowler with some reverse sweeps, it only piled on more pressure on him. He eventually lost his wicket while trying to pull Marco Jansen's bouncer. Unable to get on top of the ball, it resulted in a top edge, safely taken by Corbin Bosch.
Fans were frustrated with Jaiswal's approach and slammed him for not making the most of Gill's absence in the squad.
Marco Jansen has dismissed Yashasvi Jaiswal four times across the last six innings in IND vs SA 2025
Yashasvi Jaiswal has had a hard time against left-arm pacers in South Africa's tour of India in 2025. Marco Jansen got the better of the opening batter thrice in the two-match Test series, before managing to dismiss him in the second ODI as well. In the ODI series opener, the opener was undone by Nandre Burger, another left-arm pacer, raising some serious concerns.
Jansen had also dismissed the left-handed batter during the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL), during the clash between the Rajasthan Royals (RR) and the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).
At the time of writing, Team India are in a stable position through Ruturaj Gaikwad and Virat Kohli after Yashasvi Jaiswal's dismissal. The middle-order pair are negotiating the middle orders expertly to guide the hosts to 121-2 after 20 overs.
