On the cricketing front, Rohit Sharma was last seen in action during India's three-match away ODI series against Australia last month. The series marked the veteran opener's return to international cricket after a 220-day absence.

While India lost the series 1-2, Sharma impressed many with his batting exploits. He hit a stunning century in the Men in Blue's nine-wicket win in the third fixture, remaining unbeaten on 121 off 125 balls.

Sharma was adjudged the Player of the Series for his brilliant performances. He finished with 202 runs across three innings.

"He will deny it himself" - Mohammad Kaif feels Rohit Sharma won't captain India if Shubman Gill is ruled out of IND vs SA 2025 ODIs

India's Test and ODI skipper Shubman Gill suffered a neck injury while batting in the recently concluded Test series opener against South Africa in Kolkata. He did not take part in the match after that, and vice-captain Rishabh Pant led the side.

India will need a new skipper for the series if Gill is ruled out. ODI vice-captain Shreyas Iyer is also likely to miss the series due to injury.

Former cricketer Mohammad Kaif opined that Rohit Sharma won't captain India in that case. He suggested that the seasoned campaigner would refuse even if he was offered the captaincy for the three matches.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, he remarked that KL Rahul could be the frontrunner to captain India in the series in Gill's absence. He stated:

"They will not go back to Rohit Sharma. That is done. He will deny it himself. I feel KL Rahul is an option. He has captained before and has experience as well. I feel he will lead the side in the ODI series."

The ODI series between India and South Africa kicks off at JSCA International Stadium Complex, Ranchi, on November 30.
