Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar gifted football great Lionel Messi his 2011 World Cup-winning jersey during Messi's GOAT India tour. As a part of the tour, Messi arrived in Mumbai at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday, December 14.The 2022 FIFA World Cup-winning captain of Argentina and an eight-time Ballon d'Or winner stopped in Mumbai after visits to Kolkata and Hyderabad during his tour. As the two legends met, Tendulkar presented his signed 2011 World Cup-winning jersey to Lionel Messi.The two posed for a picture while Tendulkar presented him with the jersey, and they were all smiles. Fans at the Wankhede Stadium erupted in chants of 'Sachin' as well. It is a grassroots football program.The initiative, which is a five-year program backed by the state, will aim to bring about a change in the process of identifying young footballers. It will bring in a proper model and training program that will help them prepare for international pathways.Western India Football Association (technical expertise, scouting and assessment), MITRA & VSTF (administrative and academic support), CIDCO (infrastructure), and the Department of Sports (coordination and policy implementation) will help in the running of the project.The project will oversee the scouting of aspiring footballers from the state and give them access to training in FIFA-accredited academies.
