Team India all-rounder Washington Sundar proved his worth with the bat once again in the ongoing second Test against South Africa. With India in trouble in the first innings, he played a crucial knock and provided some resistance.
In reply to South Africa's first innings total of 489, India were bowled out for 201. Washington Sundar walked in to bat in the 42nd over with the hosts reduced to 119/6. The left-hander scored a gritty 48 off 92 balls, falling short of a well-deserved half-century. His knock included two boundaries and a six. He was also involved in a 72-run partnership with Kuldeep Yadav.
Sundar, who was India's best batter in the first Test that they lost, was sent out to bat at number eight. Notably, he had batted at number three in the first Test. Praising his knock, fans urged Sundar to be given a fixed batting position.
"Washington Sundar is the only player who looks serious about his test batting. Has shown good temperament, technique and looks promising for the coming decade. Hope the musical chairs with his batting position stops soon. Treat him proper batsman in this line up atleast," a fan wrote on X.
