Former Indian opener Sadagoppan Ramesh slammed head coach Gautam Gambhir for his constant contradicting statements after the side's embarrassing 0-2 home Test series defeat to South Africa. After the disastrous 0-3 home Test series loss to New Zealand last year, India conceded the Border-Gavaskar Trophy to Australia 1-3 down under. The Asian giants finally showed some signs of life with a 2-2 draw in England and a 2-0 home series win over the West Indies. However, the Test woes returned with the 0-2 drubbing against the Proteas, making a second home Test series loss in just over a year under Gambhir.Talking about Gautam Gambhir after the South African series, Ramesh said on his YouTube channel:"All of these unwanted records have come during the Gautam Gambhir coaching era. He has been the common theme in all of this. He said India did not need foreign coaches yet all he asked was for foreign coaches once he became the head coach. He said it's India's loss if Rohit Sharma doesn't captain India years back. Yet it was in his tenure that Rohit was removed from captaincy."India has now lost three out of the six Test series under Gambhir, with their only two series wins coming against Bangladesh and the West Indies at home."India are in no way related to the WTC final" - Sadagoppan RameshSadagoppan Ramesh believes reaching the World Test Championship (WTC) final is a distant dream for Team India after their series loss to South Africa. The side finished runners-up in the tournament's first two editions in 2021 and 2023 before missing out on final qualification this year."The Indian team has reached the WTC final twice, under Shastri and Kohli and Dravid and Rohit Sharma combinations. Yes, there was pain even then (losing the finals) because the cup, which was within our grasp, just went out of reach. But now it looks like India are in no way related to the WTC final and it looks super distant from us. I was shocked when New Zealand beat us in the first Test last year because New Zealand won a Test in India after 36 years," said Ramesh (via the aforementioned source). He added:"But that was only the first of many shocks as India lost that series. India created the unwanted record of losing a home series for the first time against New Zealand. We then handed a BGT trophy we had in hand for ten years to Australia. Now, after 25 years, South Africa have beaten India in India, that too in a dominant fashion. Apart from that, we lost an ODI series against Sri Lanka also after years."The South African drubbing has left India reeling at fifth place on the 2025-27 WTC standings with a win percentage of only 48.15.
