Former Indian seamer Irfan Pathan has suggested a few technical tweaks to Yashasvi Jaiswal's technique after the latter's match-winning ton during the third ODI against South Africa in Vizag. Pathan opined that bringing his body in sync with where the Indian opener wants to play his shot will benefit him in the long run.
Having produced low scores in the first two ODIs, Jaiswal came into the third game under some pressure. However, the opener showed patience initially and stayed unbeaten on 116, as India gunned down 271 with nine wickets and 61 balls to spare.
Speaking in a recent video uploaded on his YouTube channel 'Irfan Pathan,' the 41-year-old praised Jaiswal's penchant for big scores. He also observed how the youngster opted not to play a rash shot despite struggling initially. Pathan said:
"It was important to come runs off Yashasvi Jaiswal’s bat. He is an all-format player and I had said before the series that he can hit 200 if set. The way he batted after his half-century showed he can make big scores. But he struggled initially, stepped out, got beaten and tried to cut numerous times. He has Test hundreds, a T20I ton and now he has a century in all three formats. It shows his potential. Despite the struggle, he didn’t play any rash shot to throw away his wicket. Jaiswal opted to stay at the crease despite the struggle."
He added:
"It was sensational to see the young man scoring runs. But I would like to analyse his technique a bit deeper. His hip goes towards short fine leg and his shoulder’s upper body opens up and he tries to go side on. He needs to synchronize these three things. He struggles with these initially, especially against left-arm bowlers. When Jaiswal gets time, he should work on these."
The 23-year-old is also now one of the six Indians, along with KL Rahul, Shubman Gill, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Suresh Raina, to score a century in all three formats.
"Prasidh Krishna would have been under a lot of pressure after his first spell" - Irfan Pathan lauds Indian pacer

With right-arm pacer Prasidh Krishna taking three scalps in his second spell, Pathan lauded him for coming back strongly after a poor start. However, the 41-year-old added that consistency in lengths from the outset is a must. In the same video, Pathan said:
"Prasidh Krishna would have been under a lot of pressure after his first spell, giving away 27 runs in two overs and performed poorly in the first two games. But he got out set batters – Quinton de Kock, Matthew Breetzke and Aiden Markram. Markram had scored a hundred in the previous game. Krishna has to remember one thing, which is to bowl the correct length right from the outset. He has height and swing too but he needs to be consistent with his lengths from the start."
Kohli was named Player of the series for his 302 runs in three innings, averaging 151.
