Young Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal finally delivered in the 50-over format with a breathtaking maiden century in the third ODI against South Africa in Visakhapatnam on December 6. While boasting an excellent Test and T20I record, the 23-year-old had found the going challenging in ODIs, averaging only 18.33 in three outings.

He eventually finished unbeaten on 116 from 121 balls, helping India pull off a comfortable nine-wicket win. Jaiswal also became only the sixth Indian batter with a century in all three formats of international cricket.

"I have to control my thoughts on what shots I can play" - Yashasvi Jaiswal

Yashasvi Jaiswal admitted that the challenges of striking the right balance in terms of batting tempo got the better of him in the first two ODIs. After scoring only 40 runs in the first two games, the pressure was on Jaiswal to deliver the goods, given the competition for spots in the Indian setup.

However, with his heroic efforts tonight, the youngster now boasts nine international centuries, including two in the white-ball formats.

Talking about his Player of the Match showing at the post-match presentation, Jaiswal said (via Cricbuzz):

"I really enjoyed and I'm really grateful and blessed. We have been chatting a lot about we can play, set the tempo. Last two games I couldn't convert and I was thinking how I can balance the innings. Sometimes I was thinking of attacking, then run the singles. I have to control my thoughts on what shots I can play. If it requires, I need to go after the bowlers."

The nine-wicket win ensured India did not lose the ODI series, following their 0-2 setback against the Proteas in the Tests. The two teams will battle in a five-match T20I series, starting in Cuttack on December 9.
