Former Indian captain Anjum Chopra stressed on the experience that Harmanpreet Kaur will bring to the side as they gear up to take on South Africa in the 2025 World Cup final on Sunday, November 2. Chopra suggested that the veteran cricketer has played a final before and will know how to respond to such situations.
Kaur will lead the Women in Blue for the first time in any World Cup final when they face the Proteas at the D.Y Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. India defeated defending champions Australia to book their spot in the final, while South Africa beat England to reach the decider.
Speaking in the latest video on her YouTube channel 'Anjum Chopra,' the 48-year-old opined that the Indian team has players who can hold their nerves under pressure, claiming that Jemimah Rodrigues' 127-run knock against Australia was one such example. She said (2:11):
"Deepti Sharma, Harmanpreet Kaur, Smriti Mandhana are Jemimah Rodrigues are equally experienced when it comes to understanding of the situations and game awareness. Jemimah Rodrigues didn’t play a 127-run knock just like that or Deepti Sharma’s cameo didn’t prove effective just like that. They are vastly experienced. Harmanpreet’s experience from 2009 will prove hugely advantageous. I stress on experience because carrying the tension, stress and keeping calm can only come from experience. When you have been in those situations before, it comes from there."
Harmanpreet was part of the 2017 World Cup final hosted by Lord's, as India lost by nine runs to England. She top-scored with 51 but the Women in Blue failed to cross the line while chasing a modest 229.
"Shafali Verma will be hoping to play a good innings" - Anjum Chopra ahead of 2025 World Cup final

In the same video, Chopra said it was not easy for Shafali Verma to come in the scheme of things suddenly and perform to her potential in the semifinal against Australia. She elaborated (3:01):
"Shafali Verma will be hoping to play a good innings. She spent some time with the team before the semi-finals, she practised a little and then played. It’s not easy. It would be the first experience that a player is called up from domestic cricket and they have been called up to international cricket. It’s a good thing and it's a start. Whoever will be playing domestic cricket or will be somewhat closer to the highest level, they will know how to remain in-form and fit because phone call can come anytime about joining the team."
The team that wins on Sunday will have won their maiden 50-over World Cup trophy.
