The Women's 2025 World Cup final between India and South Africa at the D.Y Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai saw a fitting ending as Harmanpreet Kaur took the final catch to seal the trophy for the hosts. The veteran cricketer held on to an overhead catch as her teammates roared in celebration, so did the fans at the venue.The moment occurred in the 46th over of the innings sent down by Deepti Sharma as Nadine de Klerk tried to go inside out over cover but only managed to slice it. Harmanpreet, who was running after it, took the catch over her shoulder and held her arms up in celebration.In pursuit of a stiff 299, the Proteas women had their moements but were bowled out for 252, falling 46 runs short of the target.Watch the below video:It was also the fifth wicket for Deepti Sharma, who starred with outstanding figures of 9.3-0-39-5 on the night of the final. Shafali Verma, who earlier made 87 off only 78 deliveries also snared a couple of scalps, while Shree Charani took a solitary wicket. Shafali was declared the Player of the Match for her enterprising innings at the top. Keeper-batter Richa Ghosh also starred with a 24-ball 34, striking three boundaries and two maximums.The opening partnership of 104 between Shafali and Smriti Mandhana was pivotal in the hosts reaching the total of 298.For South Africa, their captain Laura Wolvaardt scored a fighting 101 but could not find enough support from the other batters to reach the target of 299.
